Health benefits of acai
Originally from Brazil and the rainforests of Central and South America, purple acai (pronounced ah-sigh-EE)berries are often called the Amazon superfood.
They are low in calories and natural sugar, with 19 amino acids, antioxidants, fiber, and Omega 3s, 6s, and 9s.
How to make an acai bowl
The recipe can be made from scratch with either frozen or powdered acai.
Frozen acai packets are widely available in the US from a company called Sambazon. Look for them at Target, Costco, Whole Foods, Giant, or other local grocery stores, and either unsweetened or sweetened puree will work.
If you want to use powder instead, look at your local health food store or on Amazon. Popular brands include Navitas or Sunfood.
The actual vegan acai bowl recipe is simple – blend all ingredients until smooth, garnish as you wish, and enjoy!

I happened to have acai powder from a superfood sample pack I’d gotten months ago and never used that one because I had no idea what to do with it. Saw your recipe, made it immediately, and it is delicious!I did a plain version with strawberries on top, but maybe next time I’ll be adventurous and do chocolate.
