Squid Roast also known as kanava roast is a spicy side dish for rice. This keralan style recipe taste amazing with roti or rice.

Squid Roast Recipe

This is my second recipe using squid, they are in season right now. Hubby got a bunch of those few days back and i made this delicious roast. I have asked him to get more, so i can share few more recipes.

How to Make Squid Roast

  • Take ingredients for grinding in a blender and make it into a coarse paste. dont add water while grinding. Set aside.
  • Heat oil in a frying pan, add the ground masala, along with curry leaves and chillies and cook till golden.
  • Now add in tomatoes and cook till mushy.
  • Now add in chilli, coriander and turmeric powder and mix well.
  • Add squid and cook for 5 mins on high.
  • Now add in garam masala, fennel seed powder and pepper powder and saute on high for another 5 mins or so.
  • Add lemon juice and salt and mix well. Serve.

Spicy and delicious squid roast with fresh masala and spices taste really good with some hot rice.

Ingredients

  • Squid - 500 grams cleaned and cut into rings
  • For Grinding:
  • Shallots / Sambar Onion - 20 peeled
  • Garlic - 6 cloves peeled
  • Ginger - 3 cm piece chopped
  • For Masala:
  • Coconut Oil - ¼ cup
  • Curry leaves a handful
  • Green Chilli - 2 chopped
  • Tomatoes - 2 chopped finely
  • Kashmiri Chilli Powder - 2 tblspn
  • Coriander Powder - 1 tblspn
  • Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
  • Black Pepper Powder - 1 tsp
  • Fennel Seed Powder - 1.5 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder - 2 tsp
  • Lemon Juice to taste
  • Salt to taste

Instructions
